STES offers Baby Classes for 6 month to 2½ year olds.
This class is designed to introduce mother and child to the joys of music. We are proud to offer one of the first Pre-Suzuki classes offered in the United States. This class, for 2 ½ year olds to 5 year olds, prepares the student for instrument study. Students participate in a variety of musical activities designed to stimulate their enjoyment of music as well as develop their focus and concentration skills. When the child is ready, they will move on to instrument study.
STES offers Classical Guitar and Piano study.
Piano students have their lessons in a master class setting, which means they observe other students lessons as well as have their own. Guitarists have individual lessons and a bi-weekly group class. Students will also have bi-weekly theory classes. It is important to remember that parent participation is required during all classes. This is central to the Suzuki philosophy and is why there is so much success with Suzuki students.
Parent Education classes
Prior to formal instrument study, parents will be required to enroll in a parent education class. These classes are meant to familiarize parents with the Suzuki philosophy and technique. This is a vital step in preparing you, the parent, to work effectively with your child at home. Prior to your child studying an instrument, you must complete this eight-week course. Your thorough understanding of and belief in this philosophy is necessary to ensure your child’s success. Part of the parent education experience includes work at the instrument itself. After the parent has finished the study of the Suzuki philosophy, they will then study the beginning steps on whichever instrument they have chosen for their child. The length of study on the instrument is determined by the time it takes to learn to play the Twinkle Variations. Based on our experience, parents who are better educated in the Suzuki method have more confidence and more effective results in all areas of their parenting.
Recitals
STES holds regular ongoing recitals, which provide an opportunity for you child to perform. These recitals also serve as a forum to let your child see and hear other children of various levels and abilities. Studio Recitals are informal recitals held at the school on Friday afternoons. Your child will be assigned to one of three recital times.
- Formal Recitals are held at the Newtown Meeting House two times a year. Dress is formal. White dress shirt or blouse, black pants or skirt and black shoes.
